VENUE : Ancaster Mill, Ancaster, ON
From the very first conversation, it was clear how deeply connected Max and Matthew are. Their wedding day was never about performance or tradition for tradition’s sake. It was about creating a relaxed, meaningful experience where they could be fully present with each other and the people who love them most.
Their intimate LGBTQ+ wedding at Ancaster Mill in August was calm, romantic, emotional, and full of joy. A celebration rooted in love, chosen family, and genuine connection, captured through a documentary approach with refined, editorial portraits woven throughout.
We began the day with Max and Matthew’s first look near the waterfall at Ancaster Mill. Tucked into the natural beauty of the venue, this moment set the tone for the entire day. Quiet, emotional, and grounding, it gave them space to connect before everything else unfolded.
From there, we moved into couple portraits around the grounds. Their session was romantic, upscale, and playful, but most importantly, it felt like them. Nothing forced, nothing overly posed. Just space to be close, laugh, and enjoy the moment together, with the historic stone, greenery, and flowing water of Ancaster Mill as the backdrop.
As guests arrived, the atmosphere shifted gently into ceremony mode. Friends and family gathered with intention, creating a space that felt supportive, warm, and deeply loving.
The ceremony took place at Miller’s Chapel and was filled with poetry, laughter, and tears of joy. Two families and chosen families coming together, united by love and pride. It was quiet and romantic, yet emotionally rich. The kind of ceremony where every word feels felt, and every reaction matters.
After the ceremony, we moved into family portraits, keeping the flow relaxed and efficient so everyone could stay present and enjoy the celebration. These portraits were warm, natural, and reflective of the closeness shared between Max, Matthew, and their families.
Wedding party portraits followed, carried out with the same intention as the couple session. Romantic, fun, and deeply personal. Less about posing, more about connection. Friends showing up fully, laughing together, and celebrating in a way that felt honest and joyful.
Cocktail hour was filled with candid moments. Hugs, conversation, quiet check-ins, and the kind of closeness that comes from feeling safe and celebrated. This part of the day unfolded effortlessly, allowing us to document real interactions as they happened.
The reception took place inside Ancaster Mill’s beautifully decorated space. From their grand entrance to first dances, parent dances, cake cutting, and heartfelt speeches, the evening was full of emotion. Laughter, tears, and moments of deep care filled the room. Everything was captured documentary-style, allowing the story to unfold naturally without interruption.
Max and Matthew’s wedding was a reminder of why representation matters and why creating safe, affirming spaces in wedding photography is so important. We felt welcomed, trusted, and truly connected to them throughout the day.
Their LGBTQ+ wedding at Ancaster Mill was elegant without being rigid, emotional without being overwhelming, and deeply personal from beginning to end.
